Walter Lothaire Atwell Obituary

Walter Lothaire Atwell, 95, of Grove City passed away on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Walter was born in Wesley, Pa., on Feb. 21, 1929, to Darrell L. and M. Genevieve (Hoffman) Atwell. He graduated from Wesley High School in 1946 and Grove City High School in 1947.

Walter served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Cooper Bessemer after 43 years.

Walter married Donna J. Templeton from Slippery Rock on June 4, 1955. They were married for 69 years.

Walter loved working on his antique cars. He was a fan of NASCAR racing and boxing. He loved the outdoors, his animals and gardening. Walter loved spending winter in his Florida home.

Walter is survived by his wife Donna; his children, daughter Melissa (David) Petrie, Lockport, N.Y., sons, Bruce (companion Becky), Slippery Rock, and Douglas (Lovina) Atwell, Grove City; former daughter-in-law, Veronica Atwell, Niles, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Dorothy Mackell, Shirley Royle and Nancy Bowie; and two brothers, Neil and Richard Atwell.

A private family funeral service will be Friday (2-14-25) in CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME Inc., 306 Bessemer Avenue, Grove City.

Burial: Slippery Rock Cemetery.
