Sylvia M. "Honey" Catrona of Clepper Manor, Sharon, previously a resident at Gargano Towers in Farrell, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday (3-15-11) in the nursing home after a brief illness. She was 86. Mrs. Catrona was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Farrell to Michael and Katherine Stepanich Fabich. She attended Farrell schools. During World War II, Mrs. Catrona was a gas station attendant for the former Buckich gasoline station on Broadway in Farrell. She had worked for Farrell Area School District as a baker in the cafeteria and had also worked at the former Loblaw's grocery in Sharon. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church and Croatian Fraternal Union Branch 126, both Farrell. An avid sports fan, Honey enjoyed rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers and loved to watch televised golf and tennis matches. Her husband, James "Cut" Catrona, whom she married June 28, 1945, preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1976. Honey leaves: a daughter, Ramona Miller and her husband Donald, Freedom, Pa.; a son, James Catrona and his wife Karen, Hermitage; a brother, Nicholas Fabich, Wexford, Pa.; and a sister, Kathleen Andree, Sharon. There are two grandchildren, Paige Miller and Kelly Catrona; and three step-grandchildren, Jack and Adam Baymaker; and Michelle Miller. Besides her husband, Honey was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Wilba Frankovich and Rose Vaglia; and a brother, George Fabich. Berdis, pastor of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, Farrell, presiding. Burial: Cremation will follow with burial of cremains next to her husband in St. Anthony Cemetery, Hermitage.
