Hermitage, Pennsylvania - Susan Lois McLaughin, 71, of Hermitage, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, Oct. 9, 2025, at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital, following a courageous 21-year battle with cancer.

Sue was born December 22, 1953, in Sharon, a daughter of Charles J. and Lois M. (Yersky) McLaughlin. A lifelong area resident, she was a 1971 graduate of Sharon High School and earned a bachelor's degree in education from Penn State, State College, in 1975 followed by a Masters Degree from Edinboro University.

For more than 30 years, Sue worked as a teacher, coach, guidance counselor and high school musical production manager for the Sharon City School District. Following retirement, Sue created a consulting service to help students and parents through the college application maze. She served as the director of tennis at Buhl Park. In 2018, Buhl Park recognized her contribution to the sport and the community by naming the tennis courts the "Sue McLaughlin Tennis Center." Sue also worked at Avalon Country Club's Golf Pro Shop, Member Services and Fitness Center.

Sue was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon, where she served as a lector and was previously a member of Parish Council and the Liturgy Committee.

Sue's community involvement and passions included service on the Buhl Day Executive Committee, Sharon High School Academic Hall of Fame, Shenango Valley Performing Arts Council, Water Fire Special Ops Team, F.H.Buhl Club Board of Directors, Penn State Shenango Alumni Council Board of Directors and Shenango Valley Chorale Board of Directors. Sue was a Buhl Day honoree in 1998 and was inducted into the Mercer County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.

Sue could always be seen either riding her bike or walking all over town. Besides playing, teaching and coaching tennis, golf was another passion, having scored two holes-in-one.

Sue is survived by two brothers, Charles J. McLaughlin, Toledo, Ohio, and Joseph C. McLaughlin, Sharon; a nephew; and four nieces.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to Buhl Park, 715 Hazen Rd., Hermitage.
