Hermitage, Pennsylvania - Ronald "Ron" Curtis Hughes passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Ron was born on Aug. 1, 1937, in Sharon, to the late Eustace "Dupe" Hughes and Virginia Hughes. He was a proud graduate of Sharon High School, class of 1957. He went on to build a long and respected career in health care, serving for many years as Director of Dialysis at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. He later retired in 2000 from Hughes Medical Management.
Ron was a proud United States Army veteran, having served his country honorably for six years.
On March 2, 1985, Ron married Betty Baker, who survives him and with whom he shared many years of love and devotion.
Ron was deeply committed to his community and civic organizations. He served as president of the Tri-County Kidney Foundation and was a member of the Sharon American Legion and the Hermitage VFW. He was a Life Member of BPO Elks Lodge Lodge 103, a member of Masonic Kedron Lodge 389, the New Castle Consistory, the Mercer County Shrine Club and the Zem Zem Shrine. He was also a member of the Mercer County Historical Society and an active, faithful member of Sharon First United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, Betty, Ron is survived by his son, Curtis (Darcy) Hughes, Minnesota; his brother-in-law, Richard (Diana) Baker; his niece, Tammy (Brad) Mild; his nephew, Richard (Tracy) Baker; and great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his daughter, Virginia Hughes, and his son, Kenneth Hughes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sharon First United Methodist Church, 237 W. Silver St., Sharon, or to Shriners Children's Hospital, 1645 W. 8th Street, Erie.
Forever in our hearts, Ron lived a life well lived and will be missed more than words can say.
