Robert A. Alcaro Obituary

Robert A. Alcaro, 66, of Farrell, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, in UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.

Born in Sharon on Oct. 21, 1951, Robert was the son of the late James and Dorothy Grande Alcaro.

Robert began his teaching career at his alma mater, Farrell High School, where in addition to teaching he was head middle school basketball coach and assistant high school basketball coach. He then spent 13 years in South Huntington School District, with five of those years spent as principal. Robert was head basketball coach at South Huntington. He finally retired in 2004 after five years as principal of Sharon High School.

A member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Farrell, Robert was always one to keep family traditions alive, hosting annual holiday dinners. He enjoyed both coaching and playing recreational softball, cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers and also running euchre tournaments at his parents' bar, Alcaro's Bar and Grill in Farrell.

Robert is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Bob Long of Mercer; his niece and her fiance, Krista Long and Tim Sweesy; two nephews, Robbie (Laura) Long and Eric Long. He adored both his great-nephew Ashton and great-niece Briley and his loving companion, his shih tzu, Dottie.

In addition to his parents, Robert is rejoined in heaven with his two dogs, Tillie and Charlie.

Memorial contributions can be made in Robert's name to the Farrell Area School District Athletic Fund.

Services for Robert were private.

Burial took place in St. Anthony Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to TOMON FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, 264 E. State St., Sharon.
