Rilla "Prugh" Jane Prugh (Hassler) Barger, 84, of Springfield Township, Mercer County, passed away at AHN-Grove City on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, following a brief illness.

She was born in Erie, and was the daughter of Edgar S. and Sylvia Boots Hassler. Mr. Hassler was the owner and editor of the Allied News in Grove City. Mrs. Hassler was the choir director at Leesburg Presbyterian Church and taught music locally at Leesburg School. Sylvia taught Prugh to play both trumpet and piano. There were

many music recitals conducted at the Hassler residence throughout Prugh's youth that she, her mother and siblings and local families participated in.

Prugh taught French at Glen Burnie High School for 3 years. She married Patrick V. Barger on Oct. 2, 1965, where they shared a joyful life raising their sons and enjoying their family.

Prugh was an active member of the Leesburg ECO Presbyterian Church in Leesburg. In her youth and throughout her life, she remained an avid animal lover and actively rescued many animals through the years.

Survivors include her husband, Pat at home; 2 sons, Penn (Laurie) Barger, Erie, Paige (Christine) Barger, Grove City; brother, Pat Hassler, Mercer; 6 grandchildren, Shelby (Greg) Cass, Colton, Nicholas, Lindsay, Justin and Mason Barger. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Pam Moore; and sister-in-law, Judy Hassler.
