N. Darl Britton Obituary
N. Darl Britton of Kinsman died on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 92.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1924, in Ashtabula, Ohio, a son of Elsie Jane (Fonner) and Herbert Kline Britton.
Darl graduated from Williamsfield (Ohio) High School in 1942 and served in the Coast Guard, making nine trips across the Atlantic Ocean.
He was a truck driver all of his life, working for the former Farm Bureau of Williamsfield; driving a milk route for the former Farmdale Dairy; driving for more than 17 years for McGill Septic Tank of Kinsman; and finally for Cortland Tractor for more than 22 years, retiring in 1989.
On June 5, 1946, he married Arlene May Goodge.
Darl was a member of Williamsfield United Methodist Church; a founding member of Ohio Maple Producers Association; a life member of the Ashtabula County Antique Engine Club in Wayne, Ohio; and a member of Sharon American Legion Post No. 299.
Every year including the spring of 2016, Darl could be found tapping and collecting sap from his neighbor's maple trees to cook down into maple syrup, with the enlisted help of three generations of his family and the neighborhood children. He enjoyed farming and gardening as well as spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Britton McGill of Hubbard and Mildred Elaine Gregg of Kinsman; a brother, Rev. C. Keith Britton of Fort Collins, Colo.; and eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Darl was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Arlene May Britton, who died on Sept. 1, 2002; an infant daughter, Barbara Sue Britton; an infant son, Andrew Charles Britton; a son, Ray. H. "Butch" Britton; and a brother, D. Lyle Britton.
