Hermitage, Pennsylvania - Melvin G. Morgenstern, 99, of Hermitage, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 4, 2026, in St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage.
Mr. Morgenstern was born Jan. 15, 1927, in Sharon, a son of the late Robert and Sophie (Gimbel) Morgenstern. He was a 1944 graduate of Sharon High School.
Melvin married the former Mary Kopan on Feb. 11, 1949. She preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 2000.
He served his country in the Navy during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, Melvin owned and operated R. Morgenstern and Sons Heating and Cooling, with his brother, Norman, retiring in 1987 after 40 years of service.
A lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Sharon, he served on the board of trustees for many years. He was also a member of Kedron Lodge 389, West Middlesex, Sharon American Legion Post 299, and the Mercer County Shriners Club.
An avid bowler, he competed in the Sharon Tavern Bowling League. He was also a Pittsburgh Pirates fan, a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and a part-time Cleveland Browns fan.
Melvin is survived by two sons, Les Morgenstern and his wife, Joyce, of Johnstown; and Dr. Robert Morgenstern and his wife, Dr. Mary Ann Palitti, of Hermitage; four grandchildren, Brittany; Daniel; Ann, Brett; and his wife, Nicole; and a special friend, Delores James.
In addition to his parents and spouse, Melvin was preceded in death by a brother, R. Norman Morgenstern, and his wife, Marge.
