Mary Jane Sernik of 110 Fredonia Road, Hempfield Township (Greenville), passed away at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at The Grove at Greenville. She was 84.

Mary Jane was born in Sharpsville on Sept. 30, 1932, a daughter of John and Mary (Holup) Hromyak. She was married to Michael Sernik, who preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 1980.

She was a 1951 graduate of the Sharpsville High School.

She was a den mother for Pack 78 for 18 years at Hadley Lions Club.

She had enjoyed helping her husband on the family farm in Otter Creek Township.

Through the years she had had various employment and retired in 1997.

She was a member of St. John's Orthodox Church, Hermitage.

She served as secretary and president of the Greenville House Residents Association.

She enjoyed crocheting, bingo and puzzles and found joy working with the elderly. She truly enjoyed her life with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons, Paul Michael Sernik and his companion Sue Smith of Hadley, Nicholas Sernik of Greenville and Christopher Sernik and his wife Audi of Hermitage; a sister, Margaret Hromyak; a nephew, Daniel Hromyak; and a niece, Nona Kolbrick, all of Hermitage; and a niece, Nancy Hutnyan of Buffalo, N.Y.; grandchildren, Andrea Chitester of Port Allegheny, Pa.; and Sheryl Weyant of Greenville, Debbie Sicilian of Mercer, Drew Eddinger of Bellwood, Devon and Danny Sernik of Greenville, Cassie Schook of Green Castle, and Coraleen Sernik of Hermitage; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Goss; an infant son, Andrew John Sernik; a sister, Helen Hromyak; a brother, John Hromyak, Jr.; and a grandson, Jason Goss.
