Mario L. Formichella, 97, of Girard, Ohio, formerly of Farrell, passed away on April 11, 2025, due to natural causes.

He was born Feb. 6, 1928, in Rochester, Pa., to Antonio Formichella Jr. and Maria Patierno Formichella Russo.

Mario Graduated from Farrell High School class of 1945.

He served in the Army in 1946.

He married Mildred Bibich on July 3,1950. Mario was a truck driver for Westinghouse Transport Leasing and Chadderton Trucking.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Church in Sharon, where he served as an usher.

Mario was inducted into the Mercer County Bowling Hall of Fame in the year 2000 and served on the board as a committee member.

In 2010 he received the Fraternal order of Police Citizen of the year award. He was a 51-year member of the FOP.

He enjoyed gardening and golf and was an avid bowler.

He and his wife Millie had four daughters, Gina (David) Stull, Lori (Brian) Williams and Susan Formichella.

They have nine grandchildren, Matthew (Jean) Stull, Kristie (Bill) Schohn, Eric Stull, Ethan (Lisa) Schumacher, Natalie (Scott) Norris, Tavia (Mark) Sinicki, Sumitra Perlino and Uljana Vondrak; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Biaggio Russo, who raised him; his brothers, Sgt. Casimir Formichella, Police Detective Andrew Formichella, and Philip Formichella; daughter, Darla Schumacher; grandson, Ehren Schumacher, and one great-grandchild.

Services: None, per the family's wishes.
