Verona, PA - Leona S. McConnell, 107, of Verona, Pa, formerly of Hermitage, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

Beloved wife of 58 years to the late Ralph M. McConnell; mother of Jean (Dennis) Kanouff, and Jane (Rick) Irvine; grandmother of Douglas (Tracy) Kanouff, Carrie Jane (Brian) Novosel, LeeAnn (David) Sandoval, and Jacob (Angela) Irvine; great-grandmother of 11; great-great-grandmother of two; sister of Jane Randazzo and the late Sara Carlson, Irwin "Bud" Sampson, Logan Sampson, Betty Jones and Marge Szabo; also survived by nieces and nephews.

Leona was recently residing at Seneca Hills Manor of Verona but lived in Mercer County most of her life. She taught school in Sharon schools, as well as one-room schools in West Middlesex.

She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sharon, Christian Endeavor, the Order of Eastern Star and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Leona and Ralph enjoyed square dancing and exploring the world in their younger years, with trips to Alaska, Ireland, and Scotland among her most treasured memories.

A devoted Ohio State fan, she rarely missed the chance to watch a game. She also found quiet joy in reading and working on word search puzzles that kept her mind sharp. Her hands were seldom still; through knitting and cross-stitching, she created thoughtful gifts for loved ones and comforting caps for cancer patients. Above all, Leona cherished time with her family, who were grateful to share life with her and who will forever miss her.

Friends received Wednesday (5-6-26) 2 p.m. until funeral service at 4 p.m. at Soxman Funeral Homes Ltd., 7450 Saltsburg Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.

A private interment will be held in Mt. Washington Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Pa.
