A memorial service will be Tuesday for Kim Forrest "Doc" Daugherty, 1236 Stanton St., Sharon, who died unexpectedly at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at his residence as the result of a fire there. He was 55. He was born June 30, 1954, in Sharon, a son of Ellis L. "Bud" Daugherty and Victoria E. (Novak) Daugherty. Mr. Daugherty had been a welder for Kasgro Rail Corp., New Castle. He previously worked at the former Trinity Industries-Greenville Rail Car Division for a number of years. He was a 1972 graduate of Sharon High School, where he was a member of the swim and track teams, and a graduate of New Castle School of Trades. Mr. Daugherty also attended Clarion University, University of Montana and Rhode Island School of the Arts. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, photography, cooking, camping, hiking and music, having taught himself to play banjo. He was an accomplished potter and woodcarver. He loved his two faithful companions - his dogs, Buddy and Charlie, who traveled with him wherever he went. Mr. Daugherty is survived by his mother, with whom he lived; a sister, Deborah J. and her husband, James Currier, Hermitage; two nephews, Ryan Ganz and Daniel Currier; and several aunts and an uncle. Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Mercer County, 3005 E. State St., Hermitage, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
