Joy W. Hancox Obituary

Joy W. Hancox, of Evergreen Nursing Center, Harmony, formerly of New Castle, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, Aug. 6 2016, in the care of Amedisys Hospice at Evergreen Nursing Center. She was 74.

She was born in Brookville, Pa., on Oct. 9 1941, to Quay and Georgia Conway Wolfe.

Joy graduated from Brookville High School and Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing, affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh.

She was Methodist by faith.

Joy loved reading and sewing, and was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins, Steelers and Pirates fan.

She loved her grandchildren, Jessica Olson, and Steven, Nicholas and Joseph Totin.

She was a military wife of 27 years, traveling all over the world with her husband, and raised two daughters overseas. Her husband, Boyd N. Hancox, whom she married April 7 1962, died Feb. 7, 1991.

As a registered nurse, she worked at area nursing homes, including Silver Oaks Nursing Home in New Castle.

She is survived by her daughter, Kristina (and Michael) Abbinanti. Pittsburgh; and her four grandchildren and stepgrandson, Michael Abbinanti. Also surviving is her son-in-law, Ron Totin, New Castle; her sister, Bonnie Myers, Ellwood City; and her brother, Keith (Mike) Wolfe, Arkansas.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisanna R. Hancox-Totin, who died April 15 2015.
