Grove City, PA - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Joan Louise Mary Nason Knoll, 96, who peacefully passed away on Nov. 10, 2025, at Grove Manor, Grove City (formerly of McMurray, Pa.), after her valiant efforts to live her life to the fullest in her later years.

Born on May 23, 1929, in Pittsburgh, Joan was the cherished daughter of Raymond William Nason and Helen Mary Tuckey (Nason).

She grew up in Mount Lebanon and was a 1950 graduate of Shippensburg State Teachers College, earning a bachelor of science degree in education, where she studied bookkeeping, commercial law, commercial arithmetic, office practice, salesmanship, shorthand, typewriting, junior business training, economics, business English and English.

Joan then taught business education subjects in the Greensburg school district, where, unbeknownst to her four children until many, many years later, she coached basketball at the high school.

Her dear friend, Lois Knoll, a fellow business education educator, introduced her to her brother, Joe, and that is just the beginning of the story of her married life.

Joan married Joseph H. Knoll on Aug. 28, 1954, and together they shared 54 years of love and partnership.

Their marriage took them to many places they called home: New York City, Syracuse, New Jersey, Chicago, Philadelphia, New Hampshire, and lastly Pittsburgh.

She was a devoted mother to Lynn Knoll, Southbridge, Mass.; Chris Knoll, New Castle; Blaise Knoll, Clarkston, Mich.; and Suzanne Knoll Chomas, Grove City.

Her love and nurturing spirit shaped the lives of her family in ways too numerous to count.

She was also a beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many loved ones, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Joan Knoll was known for her kindness, wisdom, generosity, sense of humor, and confidence.

Once she yelled out the door at a bear that was in the backyard and told him to leave. He did leave.

She was well-organized, hardworking, analytical and known for her abilities to maintain a budget, contribute strategies for family reunions, tutor children in reading, coordinate a family of four children and advise those children when they entered early adulthood on financial decisions.

Our mother Joan possessed an unwavering dedication to her family.

Throughout her life, Joan was passionate about being a member of her church, playing bridge often with her Joe and dear friends.

She often told him, "There is not a winning game in every hand you hold!"

Our mom was always busy orchestrating many bridge clubs and making sure the clubs she belonged to flourished.

Joan was instrumental in raising thousands of dollars for the Peters Township Public Library, where one such club was hosted.

Her love of the game was a testament to her dedication, sharp mind, analytical thinking and strength.

She passed this passion on to her children and instilled in us a love of games where one must think.

She is survived by her brother, Charles T. Nason, North Carolina; spouse Beth Nason; daughter Lynn Knoll, Massachusetts; spouse, Alice Fannin; sons, Christopher Knoll, Pennsylvania; Blaise Knoll, Michigan; spouse Jan Marie Knoll; daughter Suzanne Knoll, Chomas; spouse Mark Chomas, Pennsylvania; grandson Maxwell Chomas, California; spouse Seolah Kim; grandson Michael Chomas, West Virginia; granddaughter Amy Ikeler, Michigan; spouse Ryan Ikeler; grandchildren Matthew Knoll and Marie Knoll, Michigan; great-grandchildren Levi and Payton Ikeler; and soon to be born, great-grandson Chomas.

Our mother maintained a deep affection for the numerous friends she made during her various relocations, treasuring each relationship and holding them close to her heart as she journeyed through different phases of her life.

Joan is also remembered by her sisters-in-law, Kit Knoll, Mary Lou Nason and Marlane Nason, along with numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart and were cherished deeply by her.

Joan was predeceased by her husband, Joseph H. Knoll; her parents Raymond and Helen Nason; her brother, Raymond Nason; her grandchildren, Benjamin Knoll and Olivia Knoll; sister-in-law, Lois Knoll Kuhar and Raymond Kuhar; sister-in- law, Mary Jeanne Knoll Toole and Alfred Toole; brother-in-law, Jack Knoll; nephew David Toole; and niece Margaret Knoll.

We take comfort in knowing that her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

Joan has touched many lives with her warmth, generosity, and love, and she will be deeply missed.
