Joan M. (Thomas) Adams-Kopnisky, 92, of Grove City, died Dec. 30, 2024.

Joan was born on Sept. 26, 1932, in Indianapolis, Ind., the daughter of Edwin A. and Mildred (Chandler) Thomas.

Joan moved to Pennsylvania in 1945.

Joan was a 1950 graduate of State College High School, State College, Pa. She earned a B.S. degree in elementary education in 1954 from the Pennsylvania State University.

On July 25, 1954, she married Bennie G. Adams at University Baptist Church in State College.

Bennie died in 2004. On Aug. 21, 2010, she married Joseph L. Kopnisky, who passed away in 2014.

Joan taught first grade in Milton and continued her teaching career at Lincoln and Hillview Schools, Grove City, until her retirement in 1989.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City, where she sang in the choir for over 30 years and played in the Madren Handbell groups.

Joan was member of the Pennsylvania and Mercer County Association of School Retirees, AARP, and a 46-year member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

She enjoyed the Women's Literary Club of Grove City until it disbanded in 2010.

She was also a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association.

She was an avid reader and also enjoyed designing seasonal decorations in her woodshop, painting, knitting, flower gardening, RV traveling, and spending time with family and beloved pets.

She was a lifelong lover of horses, especially her colt, Sir Prize, that she raised and trained.

Over the years she enjoyed many feline pets, including Omani, a rescue from the Saudi Arabian Peninsula.

Surviving is a daughter, Robin A. Bruck and husband Jerry; a son, Steven G. Adams and wife Heidi, all of Grove City; a stepson, Jack Kopnisky of Kiawah Island, S.C.; a stepdaughter, Jill Clark, of Naperville, Ill.; one sister, Phyllis A. Thomas; three granddaughters, Casey C. Adams, Nichole R. Guntz and husband Ben, and Sarah H. Bruck; and two great-grandsons, Samuel and James Guntz.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City, or to Grove City Pet Rescue.
