James Edwin Thompson Obituary

James Edwin Thompson, 76, of New Castle, formerly of Mercer, passed away at 9:20 a.m. Sunday, July 11, 2021, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, after an extended illness.

Jim was born on Aug. 2, 1944, in Wilkinsburg, to William David and Anna M. (Reigle) Thompson, who preceded him in death.

Jim retired from SCI Mercer as a corrections officer. He was a member of Volant Lions Club and treasurer of Carpenter Cemetery Association.

He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

Jim was very much the product of the great generation. He valued faith, family, friends and service to others. Jim was a man of Presbyterian faith.

Jim is survived by his wife, Michele Kelly-Thompson, whom he married on June 20, 1987; one son, Seth (Lashondra) Thompson; and one granddaughter, Isabella Grace Thompson, all of Neshannock Township; and one brother, William D. (Carrie) Thompson Jr. in Salem, Ore.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Rev. August Hurst officiating.

Interment: Carpenter Cemetery, Springfield Township.
