James "Jim" Robert Snyder, 82, of Slippery Rock, passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, at Orchard Manor in Grove City.
He was born on April 23, 1942, in Grove City, to C. Albert Snyder and Mary Florence Conner Snyder.
Jim graduated from Grove City High School in 1960 and proudly served his country in the Navy for four years.
Jim began his 11-year career with Quaker State Oil Refining Corporation in Emlenton
by joining their accounting/finance team.
While continuing to work at Quaker State, he graduated with an accounting degree from Penn State.
Once Quaker State closed the Emlenton plant, he pursued a new career in the food service industry.
Jim managed several restaurants in the area including, Quaker Catering, The Emlenton Truck Plaza, Pappan's Family Restaurant, The Wolf's Den Restaurant and Campground Snack Shack in Knox as well as the North Star Deli in Brookville.
He gave many local youths the opportunity for their first job. He eventually retired from the Pennsylvania State Prison System in Mercer as a food service instructor.
Following his retirement, Jim continued to work part time for Sheetz, Inc. and Tinkers Dam Florist in Slippery Rock.
He always said his favorite job was to deliver flowers for the Tinkers Dam.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie J. Franceschina-Cashdollar, whom he married on July 29, 1992.
Other survivors include his children, Clay (Linda) Snyder of Emlenton; Brett (Jessica) Snyder of Laytonsville, Md.; Rich (Amy) Cashdollar of Cranberry Township; Tricia (R.J.) Campolo of McKees
Rocks; and Matt Cashdollar of Johnstown; a sister, Judy (Tom) Miller of Grove City; two sisters-in-law, Lynn Snyder of Grove City; and Karen Henderson of Streetsboro, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dick Snyder; a twin sister, Joyce Godina; a brother-in-law, Glenn Franceschina; and his mother-in-law Norma Rape.
Jim enjoyed being active in many local community and church organizations over the years. He leaves a legacy of preparing hundreds of chickens for chicken BBQ fundraisers.
He was a former board member of the Venango County Easter Seals Society, a Venango County 4-H leader and in his later years, was very active in many Church fundraisers and the Scrubgrass Grange.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Scrubgrass Grange or the American Cancer Society.
Calling hours: 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday (1-26-25) at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, and at 10:30 a.m. Monday (1-27-25) at Beloved Disciple Parish, 1310 S. Center St. Ext., Grove City.
Mass of Christian burial: 11 a.m. Monday in the church, under the direction of the Very Rev. V. David Foradori, E.V.
Lunch will be served in the social hall of the church immediately following the Mass.
Entombment: 2 p.m. Monday at Butler County Memorial Park.
