Mercer, Pennsylvania - James Bruce Mixer, 89, of Mercer, died peacefully at home on Sunday evening, May 4, 2025.

Bruce was born on March 16, 1936, in Butler to John E. and Ruth M. Mixer.

He graduated from Butler High School in 1954; Denison University, Granville, Ohio, in 1958 and the University of Missouri with a Master's degree in psychology in 1961. He served as a guidance counselor in Fulton, Mo., and East McKeesport, then was hired as Mercer County school psychologist in 1963 and in 1971, became Director of Special Education for Intermediate Unit IV, retiring in 1991.

Bruce married Carol Kiebler on Sept. 7, 1957. Carol survives along with their three children: Molly (Tom) Yeoman, Denver, Colo.; J. Bruce (Anne) Mixer Jr., Longmont, Colo.; and Burton (Jennifer) B. Mixer, Mt. Juliet, Tenn. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Lauren Dickinson, Abigail (Will) Scheel, Ian (Haley) Mixer, Katelyn Mixer, Chelsey (Zackwell) Mixer Huff, Samuel Mixer and Caroline (Ben) Koudelka; and two great-granddaughters, Nora June Huff and Reagan Lee Mixer.

Bruce was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church since 1963.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, John E. Mixer Jr. and Thomas M. Mixer.
