Isabel Goeltz Obituary

Isabel Ortega Goeltz, Hermitage, passed away early Friday morning, March 7, 2025, in UPMC Passavant Hospital, McCandless, Pa., following a period of declining health. She was 85.

Isabel was born Jan. 16, 1940, in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of Frank and Isabel (Gago) Ortega. As a first-generation American, Isabel was incredibly proud of her Spanish heritage.

After graduating from Boardman High School in 1958, she furthered her education at Bowling Green University (Ohio) and later graduated from Youngstown State University with a degree in Education.

Primarily a homemaker, Isabel also taught at Paul C. Bunn Elementary School in Youngstown, and worked as a substitute teacher for the Hermitage School District. She also worked for many years in the Sears Service Department at the Shenango Valley Mall until her retirement.

In her younger years, Isabel was active in Job's Daughters and First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and choir member. Isabel also assisted in founding the Hermitage Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and remained a lifetime member of the Hermitage Volunteer Fire Department. Isabel loved spending time at Campbell Farms during the summer months, sitting on her porch, bird watching, and family dinners. She especially loved hearing her granddaughter Lauren sing and watching her perform in musicals.

Her husband of 60 years, Robert S. Goeltz, whom she married July 11, 1964, survives at home in Hermitage.

Isabel is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gaylynn and Jim Kuncio, New Wilmington; a granddaughter, whom she adored and loved with all of her heart, Lauren Kuncio, Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Terri Anderson, Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Jean Ann Wilcox (Richard), Hermitage; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Isabel was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Robert Anderson.
