Sandy Lake, PA - Harry R. "Skip" Sample, 72, of Sandy Lake, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Nov. 19, 2025, in his residence after a courageous battle against cancer.

He was born Aug. 4, 1953, in Sharon to Harry W. and Elaine (Hooper) Sample. He graduated in 1971 from Hickory High School and attended Youngstown State University.

Harry's work career spanned over 50 years, starting as a stock boy at JCPenney and ending with over 30 years with Yourga Trucking as a traffic manager before his retirement in 2021.

He married his high school sweetheart, Jean Gardner, on June 22, 1974. They enjoyed 55 years together, 51 married.

Following his son's sports was his greatest joy. He was president of the Mercer Little League for many years and attended every wrestling match and swim meet through high school and college.

When grandchildren arrived, he embraced the role of Grampy and attended dance recitals, volleyball matches, choir and band concerts and musicals. They were the light in his life.

Harry was a life member of the Sharon Elks Lodge #103 for 52 years, being exalted ruler three times.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Jean; sons, Jason (Christy) and Jeremy (Aimee); grandchildren, Brayden, Riley, Raegan and Jayden; brother Jim (Mary); nieces Carrie (John) Wagner, Amy Phythyon and Brooke Sample (Richard Quinn); nephews, Shawn Phythyon, Brent and Drew (Pam) Godfrey; and sister-in-law, Sharon Godfrey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Phython (Barry); and his in-laws, JC and Becky Gardner.
