Mercer - George "Bill" Hromyak, age 83, passed away on Sept. 9, 2022, at Countryside Personal Care home Mercer, PA. He is preceded in death by his son George William Hromyak III, and parents George and Anne (Ledney) Hromyak. He is survived by his two daughters Jennifer (Aaron) Dayton of Neshannock, Pennsylvania and Janelle Hromyak of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and two granddaughters, Parker and Zoe Dayton.
Bill grew up in Hermitage and graduated from Hickory High School in 1957. His best memories are time he spent with his classmates. He remained very close with many of them and was eager to help plan their reunions. His family owned the largest barn in Mercer County, complete with a basketball court on the top floor. Kids from all over the county would stop and play for hours. Bill also belonged to Boy Scouts, where he learned many survival and outdoor skills.
He had a passion for cars owning British MG Midgets, but his prized procession was a 1957 black Ford Fairlain 500 Skyline retractable hardtop.
After graduation, Bill worked as a printer at The Sharon Herald and The Vindicator in Youngstown, Ohio.
In 1973 Bill became a business owner and opened Hromyak's Janitorial Services. He ran a very successful commercial and residential cleaning service for 43 years in Shenango Valley acquiring a fleet of cleaning vehicles and large cleaning staff.
As Bill was easing into retirement, he also started working at Daffin's Candy factory in Farrell, Pa. working the evening shift cleaning up all the chocolate and caramel from the day.
Bill was an avid hunter and learned to shoot by working at a skeet shooting range by his family farm. His father then taught him how to hunt, and together they would go out for pheasants, rabbits, turkeys and deer. He would always bring his beagle, which he always said was the best hunting companion. Bill also loved to fish, and over the year's accumulated endless fishing stories from everybody of water in Pennsylvania. He taught all his children how to catch and clean a fish.
A lover of the outdoors, Bill took his family camping. He towed a 32-foot Shasta camper all through the great lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway, the Pocono Mountains, and to islands in Lake Erie.
Bill had a great enthusiasm for gardening, he grew everything, but took pride in his tomatoes and peppers. He especially loved hot peppers and would spend days canning peppers and gifting them to his friends. Bill also had a love for cooking, always in search for new recipes to try. He learned how to make paska (Easter bread) and nut roll from his mother and enjoyed baking over the holidays.
Bill was very proud to be active in the community, golfing with various groups. He became a member of the Sharon Rotary Club and served as Rotary Club President.
Bill was an unapologetic fan of all Cleveland Sports teams, especially the Browns. Bill enjoyed listening to the "oldies", and would often whistle or sing along, as loud as he could. He loved to dance and would say, "Dancing is all in the hips!" He was nominated as "Mr. Countryside" representing the Mercer Personal Care home and was invited to perform as a contestant at The Chadwick in Wexford, Pa. Bill chose to dance as his special talent, it meant the world to him to be able to dance again.
Bill had an infectious smile and would bring joy and laughter everywhere he went. He was a kind soul, and lived his life with a joyful spirit, always finding the silver lining in any situation. He adored his children, and grandchildren.
