Fred W. "Doc" Emrick, of Vernon Township, Ohio, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, in his home. He was 90.

Mr. Emrick was born May 5, 1926, in Pittsburgh, a son of William C. and Elizabeth K. (Hassler) Emrick.

A long-time resident of Vernon Township, "Doc," as he was known to all, worked in construction in Vernon and surrounding areas of Ohio. He also built houses in Pittsburgh for many years with his father and brother, as well as operating the family farm. Following that he was employed as a mechanic for Niles Fuel and Supply Co. in Niles, Ohio, for 40 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a long-time member of Vernon United Methodist Church; and was a member of the Five Points Model A Club. He enjoyed rebuilding Model A cars, woodworking, yard work and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen M. (Gerger) Emrick, whom he married July 30, 1951. He is also survived by his daughter, Donna (Robert) Ross; his three sons, Walter (Patricia) Emrick, Richard (Marilyn) Emrick, and Ronald (Darlene) Emrick, all of Vernon, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Robert (Dawn) Ross, Benjamin (Trina) Ross, Brian Emrick, Bonnie (Jeff) Harrell, Jennifer (Mark) Morocco, Nicholas Emrick, Amber (Jamison) Conley, and Katie Starling; 12 great-grandchildren, Elisha, Mathew, Josh, Brandi, Nathan, Jack, Henry, Ethan, Abigayle, Dayton, Camden and Brenden; and his sister, Pearl Henderson, Clearwater, Fla. He also leaves behind a friend in everyone he met.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William C. Emrick Jr.; and five sisters.
