Eleanor "Ellie" Dougherty Obituary

Eleanor "Ellie" Dougherty, 79, of Meadville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021, at Meadville Medical Center.

Ellie was born at home in South Pymatuning Township, Mercer County, on March 20, 1942, a daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Kubyako) Ledney.

On May 5, 1962, Ellie married John W. Dougherty, who survives.

She was a faithful member of The Epiphany of The Lord Parish, St. Agatha Church.

She loved her weekly prayer group and cherished her many trips to Medjugorje. These experiences were very special to her and made her faith even stronger.

Ellie attended Lone Star Elementary School and graduated in 1960 from Sharpsville High School. She furthered her education at Greenville School of Nursing, becoming a licensed practical nurse and was employed as an LPN at the former Spencer Hospital.

In the 1980s, she obtained her realtor license and worked for Bainbridge Kaufman which later became known as Caldwell Bankers.

In the 1990s Ellie eventually gave up working to become a full-time "Honey," babysitting her grandchildren, which brought Ellie much happiness.

She enjoyed shopping, working in her vegetable garden, her yard, and her secret garden.

Ellie was full of faith and love. She will be sadly missed.

In addition to her husband, John, of nearly 60 years, Ellie is survived by a son, David A. Dougherty and his companion, Gerilyn, of Parma, Ohio; a daughter, Theresa "Terri" (Dale) Pringle of Meadville; five grandchildren, Kyle, Jacob, and Zachary Dougherty, and Alexis and Courtney Pringle; three great-grandchildren, Nolia, Cieanna, and Evelyn; two sisters, Irene (George) Horodnic and Jane Zalewski, both of Hermitage; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ellie was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Vavrek, and a brother, Michael Ledney.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ellie's memory to Epiphany of the Lord Parish, 353 Pine St., Meadville, Pa., 16335; E.W.T.N., 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, Ala., 35210; or Orthodox Monastery of the Transfiguration, 321 Monastery Lane, Ellwood City, Pa., 16117.
