Elaine L. Gano Obituary

Elaine L. Gano, 86, of Greenville, peacefully passed away on Tuesday morning, April 11, 2023, at St. Paul's surrounded by her loving family.

Elaine was born in Greenville (Delaware Township), on May 27, 1936, to the late G. Fred and Lois (Waldorf) Little.

She was a 1954 graduate of the former Fredonia Delaware High School.

She worked for many local businesses including Mercer Walker Manufacturing as a payroll clerk, Westinghouse as a secretary, Mulvey Advertising, and Greenville Area School District in many capacities such as attendance secretary and assisting in the library.

She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, past secretary of Greenville Wrestling Club, and involved in 4-H Club.

Elaine was a 38-year cancer survivor and active with the American Cancer Society as a volunteer.

She was a member of Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ in Greenville.

Elaine made children's washable cloth books and aprons to sell at craft shows that today can be found worldwide. She loved camping and living at Farma Family Campground for many years where she enjoyed playing bingo, cards, and skeeball.

She was an avid reader and fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.

Sewing and genealogy were her passions but most of all, she loved her family.

Elaine is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Samuel R. Gano. They were married on May 16, 1958, in Fredonia.

Also surviving are two daughters, Karen S. Gano of Santa Fe, N.M., Dianne G. Diefenderfer and her

husband, Kim, of Zionsville, Ind.; son, Robert S. Gano and his wife, Donna, of Biglerville, Pa; four grandchildren, Marc Diefenderfer and his partner, Rachel Bonini, of Lake Jackson, Texas, Ryan Diefenderfer of Phoenix, Ariz., Kaitlin Gano and her fiancé, Brandon Biggins, of Hilton Head, S.C., and Samuel Gano of Biglerville; three brothers, Daniel, Gerald, and Frank Little; two sisters, Anne Wedemeyer and Donna Stepp; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George and David Little.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Greenville Historical Society, the St. Paul Homes Good Samaritan Fund, or the Alzheimer's Association.
