Sharpsville, Pa. - Edward Volansky, 92, of Sharpsville, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, in Sharon Regional Health Center, Sharon.
Ed was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Farrell, a son to Andrew and Mary Volansky.
Raised in Farrell, Ed attended Farrell High School and graduated in May 1951.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during high school and went on to proudly serve four years on the U.S.S. New Jersey during the Korean Conflict. The ship he served on was the last battleship to fire on North Korea before the second cease fire in 1953. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy April 8, 1955. For his service to our country he was awarded the Combat Action Medal with two Bronze Stars, National Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal.
At a church picnic, he met his wife Louise "Weezie" (Gelesky) Volansky, whom he promptly went to Virginia and eloped in marriage Nov. 26, 1955. Together they shared a fulfilling life, providing a loving home to their many fur babies over the years, volunteering at numerous events, and spending quality time enjoying each other's company.
Ed and Weezie were devoted fans of the Sharpsville athletic teams and volunteered their time to sporting events from 1994 to 2013. Ed was true to his marriage vows and remained by Weezie's side through sickness and health until her unfortunate passing Sept. 4, 2016.
Ed worked from the time he was a mere lad, delivering groceries. In Ed's words, "after 40 years, eight months and 30 days, but who's counting" he retired from Sawhill, Wheatland, in 1994.
He was a lifetime member of the Sharpsville VFW Post No. 6404, Sharpsville American Legion Post Nos. 162 and 48 where he served as past commander and many other roles for each. He also called bingo for the ladies auxiliary on Monday nights.
Besides volunteering at concession stands for multiple sports so families could watch their children play, Ed served as a Sharpsville Santa Claus with the Sharpsville Service Club for many years.
Ed enjoyed volunteering his time in the community and was awarded "person of the year" by the Sharpsville Historical Society in 2019. On Oct. 14, 2021, he was awarded the Ambassador for Peace Medal. Following the ceremony, the mayor of Sharpsville declared Oct. 14 "Ed Volansky Day."
Surviving are many friends, nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend who will truly miss his smile, laugh, and companionship.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Weezie; and brothers, Andy, Albert and John Volansky.
