Dominic J. Amato Sr., Bedford Road, Brookfield passed away peacefully at 6:50 a.m. Saturday (10-27-12) in O’Brien Memorial Health Care Center, Masury, following an extended illness. He was 81. He was born May 1, 1931, in Meadville, the son of Sylvester and Elizabeth Galle Amato. He graduated in 1949 from Hornell High School, Hornell, NY, and matriculated to Youngstown State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration. Mr. Amato worked in both Hubbard and Warren, Ohio, for General Motors and Delphi Packard Electric Corp., where he was a supervisor. He was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon. Mr. Amato was well known in the bowling community and was a member and past president of both the Pennsylvania State Bowling Association, and the Mercer County Bowling Association (50-year member). He was inducted into the following halls of fame: Mercer County, 1993, Pennsylvania State, 2000, and the Mercer County Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. A decorated Korean War veteran, he was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1956 with the United National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the American Legion, Sharon Post 299. He was a member and past president of the Brookfield School Board where he served for 12 years. He was a familiar face at the scorer’s table for many years having been the bookkeeper for the Brookfield Warriors football and basketball teams. Mr. Amato was a third-degree honorary Life member of the Knights of Columbus, Vienna (G. Quintiliani) Council 13260. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved attending his grandchildren’s sports and school related events, he will be sadly missed. His wife, the former Dolores J. Conti survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Cheryl A. Hrusovsky and her husband Michael, Lake Forest, Ill., Denise M. Amato, Northampton, Mass., Robin L. Linhart, Hermitage, Dominic J. Amato Jr. and his fiancée, Staci Olson, Neshannock, and Karen Mistovich, Hadley, Mass., a sister-in-law, Kay Amato, Niles, his brothers, John Amato and his wife Theresa, Meadville, Frank Amato and his wife Pat, Greenville, Richard Amato and his wife Pat, Pleasant Hills, Pa., eight grandchildren, Megan, Anthony, and Joseph Hrusovsky, Jessica and Wynter Linhart, Maria, Nicole, and Carli Amato. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Mark Anthony Amato, and a brother James Amato.
