West Middlesex, Pa - Deborah L. (Selby) Sweesy, of West Middlesex, passed away in the early afternoon on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at her home. She was 72.

Debbie was born March 25, 1953, in Sharon, to Harold "Cork" and Mabel Selby.

She attended and graduated from West Middlesex schools (Class of 1971). She attended Slippery Rock University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education.

On Jan. 5, 1974, she married Tom Sweesy They were married 51 years.

Debbie was a Health and Physical Education teacher at West Middlesex from 1974 until her retirement in 2008. She truly valued the friendships and time spent as a teacher with both colleagues and students.

Active and energetic, Debbie loved yoga, walking, skiing, bowling, golfing, movie club and dancing.

In 1978, she created the Sundancers, a dance team at West Middlesex High School. She took pride in teaching, guiding and choreographing over 200 girls in her 20-year tenure.

As the fourth generation of the Blake/Selby family to live in West Middlesex, she was an active and well-respected member of the community. Friends and family valued her honest, genuine, straight-forward approach, which set her character in the highest regard.

In recent years, she spent winters in Jacksonville, Fla., visiting her niece Tracy and sister-in-law Bunny Selby and often traveled to visit her grandchildren in Hermitage and Boston.

She loved her time with her four grandchildren. Her games, challenges and themes could not be matched. To "Gram." family was everything.

She is survived by her husband, Tom; her daughter Tamala Sweesy (Ben) Levin, Hingham, Mass.; son, Jay (Jodi) Sweesy, Hermitage; and four grandchildren, Tula, Brinley, Abe, Vera.

Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ted Selby.
