Daniel E. Moyer of Beatty School Road, Hadley, Salem Township, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 4, 2017, at 7:30 a.m. at his residence after having fought a long hard battle with addiction. He was 57.

Dan was born in Euclid, Ohio, on Aug. 13, 1959, a son of Earl and Gloria (Maffett) Moyer.

On Oct. 15, 1994, he married Heidi S. Anthony, who survives. Following his high school graduation, Dan attended trade school and throughout his working career he had been a welder, a fabricator and a cabinet maker.

Dan had a big heart and would help friends and strangers alike. He was able to fix anything that needed fixed. His family affectionately referred to him as "MacGyver."

He possessed a strong faith in God and had attended several local churches over the years. Through his struggle with addiction, Dan has finally found his peace and contentment. His family is waiting for the day that they can all be rejoined.

Dan was a faithful member of the Greenville AA and had attended many of the AA groupd in Mercer County. Dan found the support and friendship he had gained through the AA as being his means to survive.

He is survived by his wife, Heidi; two sons, Dean Moyer and his girlfriend, Tessa Russell, of Hadley and Jesse Rodebaugh-Moyer of Transfer; his mother, Gloria Lewis and her husband, Richard, of Johnson City, Tenn.; his stepmother, Patricia Moyer of Mentor, Ohio; two brothers, David Moyer and his wife, Patti, of Willoughby Hills, Ohio, Doug Moyer and his wife, Edith, of Euclid, Ohio; a sister, Karen Moyer of Kipton, Ohio, a god-daughter, Amimee Whiteside, and her three children, Naries, JJ and Dallus; and 16 nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorial tributes be made to AA or to any other substance-abuse treatment program.
