Palm Coast, Fla - Master Chief Petty Officer Daniel James Kerins, U.S. Navy (Ret.), 82, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away peacefully on Nov. 22, 2025, at Sancerre at Palm Coast, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born Dec. 7, 1942, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Daniel and Mary (Henighan) Kerins. After graduating from Ursuline High School, Dan attended Youngstown State University before he answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Navy a decision that shaped the next three decades of his life.

Throughout his 30 years of dedicated service, he was stationed across the United States and earned the respect of all who served alongside him.

A highly decorated veteran, Master Chief Kerins was the recipient of numerous commendations including the Navy Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal with three Gold Stars, Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal with three Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with device, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Recruiting Ribbon, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Ribbon, the Meritorious Service Medal, and was recognized as National Recruiter of the Year. His service to his country was lifelong, steadfast, and marked by unwavering pride.

Following his retirement, Dan and his wife settled in Palm Coast, where he embraced the joy of home and community. Known for his meticulous yard work and warm personality, he became the "official, unofficial Mayor of Pine Crest Lane," always eager for a friendly conversation with neighbors.

He was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and found his greatest happiness in the company of his familyespecially his beloved grandchildren. Dan loved his country, cherished his family, and had a gift for connecting with people that made every room brighter.

Dan leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Kay Charlotte (Hauenstein) Kerins, whom he married in 1975; three children, Conrad (Vanessa) Kerins of Palm Coast, Kathleen (Jay) of Asheville, NC, and Daniel (Angie) Kerins of Deltona; and four treasured grandchildrenBenjamin, Emily, Samuel, and Annabelle. He is also survived by five siblings: Bill (Kathy) Kerins of Aurora, Ohio; Kay (Dick) Santell of Hermitage; Mary Lynn (Bob) Grande of North Canton, Ohio; Susie (Bill) Hamilton of Hermitage; and Ginny (Bill) Grunenwald of Trafford, Pa.; as well as one sister-in-law, Lorie Kerins of Carolina Shores, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews who loved him deeply.

In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Elliott, and two brothers, James and Michael Kerins.
