West Middlesex, Pennsylvania - Clarence Ellsworth Hemminger, 93, of West Middlesex, passed away on Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, at UPMC Horizon - Shenango Valley. Clarence was born in Somerset on July 31, 1932 to Earl and Alma Good Hemminger. After graduation from Somerset High School, he had a long career as a truck driver, first with Cooper-Jarret and then Preston Trucking where he retired from years later. He was a member of Teamsters Local 261. He married Betty Catherine Howsare on June 19, 1966 and they moved to West Middlesex in 1970. Besides his love for truck driving, Clarence was a dedicated blood donor, having donated 16 gallons in his lifetime. He enjoyed spending many hours in his garden and sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and family. He was a true people person, energized by social interaction. He had a knack for telling stories and jokes.
In his retirement years, he loved traveling - visiting nearly all 50 states and beyond with his wife Betty. But above all else, Clarence loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Larry (Melissa) Hemminger, Somerset Tami Hemminger, Middletown, Todd (Jacqueline) Hemminger, Linden Va., Tracy (Nancy) Hemminger, West Middlesex, and Craig (Tina) Hemminger, Hubbard Ohio; stepchildren, Maureen (Benny) Carosone and Bill (Nancy) Ash, all of West Middlesex; brother, Jim Hemminger, Boswell; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Connie Hemminger Bohm and infant daughter Carlie Hemminger; son David Hemminger; stepdaughter Bonnie Ash; brothers Roy and Eugene; and sister Alice Kimmel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of donations to Church of the Good Shepherd in West Middlesex or Alzheimer's Association.
