Cary Holland Obituary

Cary Holland, Jr., 87, formerly of Franklin, passed away in his home in Hermitage Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, with his family by his side.

He was born Nov. 13, 1930, in Grove City, a son of the late Cary and Zula (Basham) Holland Sr.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during the Korean War, receiving the Occupations Medal.

Cary worked for Denton Construction in Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., retiring in 1980. He then worked for the PA Department of Transportation for 10 years as a machine operator, retiring in 1990.

On Jan. 28, 1956, he married Grace Marie Smith.

He was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church for over 40 years where he was a Sunday School teacher, deacon, usher, trustee and member of the Mass Choir. He was a member of the New Light Baptist Church, Sharon, since 2011.

He belonged to Operating Engineers Union Local 66.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 62 years, Grace Holland of Hermitage; his daughters, Carolyn Holland and her husband, Lawrence, Kathleen Holland and Theresa McCray and her husband, Vincent; two children they raised, Jayda Poindexter and Jacara Poindexter; his grandchildren Lawrence Wright, Jr., Krystal Wright, Nathanael Wright, Kayla Holland, Lovella Holland, Kwame McCray and Imani McCray and his great-grandchildren Leah Holland and Zariah Powers. He is also survived by his sisters Myrtle Engs, Barbara Smith and Marjorie Kidd and her husband, Ben; numerous nieces and nephews; his God-children, Butchie Basham, Roxanne Basham and Beverly May, and his beloved dog Cinnamon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Nelliecliff; his sisters Louise Coger and Zola Perdue and his brother Wesley Coger.
