Anthony "Tony" Dominic Yassall, 98, of Brookfield, Ohio, was received into the loving arms of his bride, Shirley, on Friday, March 7, 2025, following a brief illness.
Anthony was born in Sharon on June 9, 1926, a son to Theodore and Maria "Jennie" (Ciriello) Yassall.
He attended Sharon High School and was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was assigned to Company C of the 756th Railway Shop Battalion as a railway car mechanic. His decorations and citations include, Marksman with a Rifle, Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Battle of Rhineland Star, Army of Occupation Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Purple Heart, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He was honorably discharged from his duties with the rank of private first class. He proudly wore a WWII Veteran hat wherever he went, and it wasn't until his later years that he was willing to tell stories about the war.
He married the former Shirley Lohr on Oct. 28, 1950. They moved to Brookfield, where they raised four children and enjoyed their life together on the farm they loved.
Tony, as he was affectionately known, worked as a repairman for the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad, later known as Conrail. He dedicated over 44 years of service to the company, before officially retiring.
He and his wife were very active members of the Brookfield United Methodist Church, where he served on many committees, the men's Sunday night golf league and was a volunteer for a variety of fundraisers. In addition, he was a member of the Railroad Retirees.
In his spare time, he enjoyed farming, gardening, cutting grass and playing cards. Tony was a real outdoorsman who could be found on his John Deere tractor tending to his land. Furthermore, he loved golfing, especially in the church golf league.
Tony and Shirley traveled every chance they could and were Florida snowbirds. However, family meant the most to him, and he always cherished every opportunity to spend time with them.
Mourning his loss are daughters, Gail (Nicholas) Evanchan, of Canfield, Ohio, Bonnie (Steve) Crisan, of Pickerington, Ohio, and Rhonda (John) Zebroski, of Brookfield, Ohio; son, Paul Yassall, of Florida; grandchildren, Kristen (Michael) Ambrose, Michael (Jeannie) Evanchan, Dr. Jason (Cara) Evanchan, Amanda (Jim) Hanahan, Jessica (Dan) Flanagan, Merielle Crisan, Travis Crisan, Joelle (Jalen) Richardson, Rachelle (John) Harris, Ashley (Sam) Ryan, Dr. Anthony Yassall and Andrew Yassall; great-grandchildren, Abby, Mick, Carter, Garrett, Adelyn, Jack, Will, Connor, Brooklyn, Kamryn, Kendall, Raelynn, Dominic and Beau; sister, Lucy Machuga, of Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved bride of 71 years, Shirley Mae (Lohr) Yassall, who passed Dec. 12, 2021; brother, Dr. Herman Yassall; and sister, Christine Incerto.
