Ann M. Nicolls
Ann M. Nicolls, 88, of Hermitage, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday afternoon, June 19, 2026, in her home.
Mrs. Nicolls was born March 3, 1938, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Vincent and Teresa (Bauer) Werner.
Ann was a 1956 graduate of St. Mary of the Woods High School, Columbus, Ohio.
For many years, Ann worked as a cafeteria chef at Notre Dame Parochial Grade School, where she was lovingly called, "Cafeteria Annie."
Earlier in her life, she was employed by the General American Transportation Corp. (GATX) and also spent several years as a homemaker.
Devout in her faith, Ann was an active member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, where she served as a Eucharistic minister and as a member of the funeral meal ministry.
She attended Mass daily, and every Tuesday looked forward to joining her fellow church friends at Panera following Mass.
A woman of many talents and hobbies, she especially enjoyed cross-stitching, baking, gardening, cooking and working puzzles.
Ann was also an avid card player, with her favorite game being Shanghai Rummy, and was well-known for her endearing hugs.
Her beloved husband of 35 years, Robert M. "Bob" Nicolls, whom she married on Feb. 8, 1964, preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1999.
Ann is survived by three daughters, Mary Ann Spohrer (James), Glenarm, Ill.; Jeanne Pursel, Hermitage; and Kathleen Nicolls, Cincinnati, Ohio; a son, Robert E. "Rob" Nicolls (Maria), Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Carole Werner, Masury, Ohio; and Nelle Cicen, Aurora, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Abby, Maggie, and Joe Spohrer, Andrew Pursel (Kelly) and Jason Pursel (Hailey), and Emma, Jessica, Robert, Lauren, and Audrey Nicolls; one great-grandson, Leo Pursel; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ann was preceded in death by her brother, Charles "Chuck" Werner; a sister-in-law, Alice Nicolls; and a brother-in-law, Randy Cicen.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be directed to the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Road., Hermitage, PA 16148; or the Willow Women's Center, 295 N. Kerrwood Drive, Suite 106, Hermitage, PA 16148.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.

Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
