Sharpsville, Pennsylvania - Alan Jay Porsch, 79, of Sharpsville, passed away with his wife and family by his side early Thursday morning, Jan. 8, 2026, in UPMC Shenango Valley Hospital, Farrell.
Mr. Porsch was born April 5, 1946, in Mercer, a son of Orin and Martha (Dummett) Porsch. He was a 1964 graduate of Mercer Joint High School, where he served as head basketball manager, participated in junior and senior class plays and was a member of the "M" Club. Alan matriculated at Robert Morris College, Moon Township, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1971 with a B.S. in Business Administration.
Alan began his accounting career in 1967 by working as a staff accountant with Magner, Black, Bashor and Company, C.P.A.'s. After becoming a Certified Public Accountant in 1973, he became a junior partner. For the majority of his career, Alan was a senior partner at his accounting firm Black, Bashor and Porsch LLP, in Sharon.
He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Alan was formerly a longtime member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sharon.
Alan was an active member of the Robert Morris Alumni Association and a familiar face at the university. He especially loved attending sports events and held season tickets for football, basketball and hockey games. Alan also had a lifelong love and passion for Volkswagen Beetles and owned numerous models from various eras throughout his life.
Alan met and fell in love instantly with a young girl named Ruth, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with joy, laughter and, after a lesson from Alan, plenty of dancing. Ruth and Alan were married on Nov. 9, 1968, and enjoyed 57 beautiful years of marriage.
In addition to being a devoted husband, Alan was a loving father and adoring grandfather, affectionately called "Papa" by his eight grandchildren. His grandchildren idolized him for his intelligence, kind demeanor and constant selflessness, always supporting them in their endless endeavors.
In addition to his wife, Ruth, of Sharpsville, Alan is survived by two daughters, Jody (Daniel) Porsch-Knorr, Cranberry Township, and Kimberly (Brian Bell) Porsch, Hermitage; a sister, Jean (John) Steigerwald, Southpointe; eight grandchildren, Marlon, Miles and Olivia Garber, and Alexis, Zachary (fiancée, Katelyn), Madison, Emily and Adalyn Duncan; and several nieces and nephews.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Robert Morris University Alumni Association, Lafayette Center, 6001 University Blvd., Moon Township, or a charity of the donor's choice.
