Joseph's Story

Joseph Amon Baker, 91, formerly of Reiber Road, Hermitage, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, at the hospital at Sharon Regional Health System.
Joe was born in Wheatland on Nov. 1, 1925, to the late William Elmer and Elizabeth Hilke Baker. He married Janice Marie Evans on Nov 30, 1946.
Joe retired from Wheatland Tube and then worked for the United Way of Mercer County. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of West Middlesex, a life member of the West Middlesex VFW, and the Wheatland American Legion. He also was a member of the Kedron Lodge 384, the New Castle Consistory, the Zem Zem Shrine and the Mercer County Shrine Club, where he served as secretary for many years.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Wilkes-Barre.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Baker of Hermitage; one daughter, Betty (Ronald) Hughes; and one son, Richard (Diana) Baker of Hermitage. Completing the family are two grandchildren, Tammy (Brad) Mild, Richard (Tracy) Baker; and five great-grandchildren, Madison, Grace and Emma Mild and Kellen and Declan Baker.
A son, Joseph W. Baker, and 14 siblings preceded Joe in death.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Nugent's Convalescent Home for their compassion and caring.

Service: Funeral at 1 p.m. Saturday (10-14-17) at the funeral home, with the Rev. Doug Dyson, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Sharon, officiating.
Burial: Haywood Cemetery, West Middlesex.
