Homer's Story

Homer H. Redfoot, Fairview Township, Mercer, passed away peacefully at 4:25 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, in Grove Manor Nursing Home. He was 82.
Born May 29, 1935, on the family farm in Fairview Township, he was a son of Theodore M. and Dora E. McCurdy Redfoot. He attended Stoneboro High School.
Homer began working at Sharon Steel at age 17, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1953 and served aboard the USS Raton Submarine until 1957. He was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran.
Upon his return home, he worked at Westinghouse I-40 in Sharon then at Reynolds until they shut down. He then worked at Ivex of Grove City and retired from there after nine years. In his early years, he worked as a driver for Laubscher Cheese Co. He also was always a farmer and farmed for many years. Along with his wife, Maxine, he made maple syrup for many years as well.
He was a member of the Clarks Mills United Methodist Church.
Homer also enjoyed embroidery, a skill he learned from his sister at age 5. He was a hard-working man and a good provider for his family.
His wife, the former Maxine C. Hahn, whom he married May 16, 1965, survives at home. Also surviving are daughters, Terri J. (Howard) Crisswell of Erie and Lynn A. (Edward) Mazon of Stoneboro; sons, Dan D. (Tracy) Redfoot of Stoneboro and Bill B. (Jennifer) Redfoot of Sandy Lake; eight grandchildren, Amanda Leonard, Constance, Brady, Anna and Lauryn Redfoot, Brianna Crisswell, Edward Mazon, Jr. and Kenneth Mazon; and two great-grandchildren, Mackenzi Flores and Lucas Estremera.
In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by six sisters, Nellie J. Jones, Mary Stanek, Ella Slater, Erma Barner, Jane Snyder and Donna Redfoot; and three brothers, Lee, Charles and Paul Redfoot.

Calling hours: 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday (8-31-17) and one hour prior to the service Friday (9-1-17) in the SCOTT A. BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.
Service: Funeral at 11 a.m. Friday (9-1-17) in the funeral home, with the Rev. Randy L. Ritchey, pastor, Oak Grove Church, Fairview Township, officiating.
Interment: Millbank Cemetery, Fredonia.
