Eugene "Gene"'s Story
Eugene P. "Gene" Roqueplot of 131 E. St. Lucia Loop, Apollo Beach, Fla., died Thursday morning (7-20-17) in his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 83.
Mr. Roqueplot was born Jan. 2, 1934, in Sharon, a son of Isly M. and Lenora (Hess) Roqueplot.
He was a 1952 graduate of Farrell High School. He then served in the U.S. Army overseas in Germany for two years. Gene was retired from the former Sharon Steel Corp.
Gene was an active member of the Shoresh David Messianic Synagogue in Apollo Beach, Fla. When residing in Farrell, he was an active member of the Oakland Avenue United Methodist Church, Sharon.
Gene had many pastimes during his life: motorcycles, boating and he was very handy with fixing everything. He did charity work, especially for the church along with helping anyone in need that he could. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his companion, Paulette Pozycki, who helped care for him during his illness.
He also leaves a daughter, Cathy Stonebraker and her husband William, Cranberry Township: a son, Eugene W. Roqueplot and his wife Jane, West Middlesex; grandson, Joe E. Roqueplot and his wife Christy; and great-grandsons Brandon Isaac, Kyle Isaiah and John David Roqueplot. He also leaves two sisters, Mary Ellen Zola and her significant other Joe Atterholt of Hermitage and Rachael Wilcox of Florida, and many nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; a wife, Betty Templeton, whom he married on Aug. 29, 1953; a son, David J. Roqueplot; grandsons David Isaac and Daniel Roqueplot; a brother, Keith Roqueplot, and two brothers-in-law, Frank Zola and Richard Wilcox.
A private memorial service will be planned in the future.
