Doris's Story

Doris Mae Robinson Fyffe, 89, of Grove City passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Grove Manor Nursing Home in Grove City after an extended illness.
She was born on April 28, 1928, in Mercer to Fred H. Robinson and Margaret Rebecca Rodawalt Robinson. She graduated from Mercer High School in 1946. She married Walter B. Fyffe on Aug. 13, 1949, and he preceded her in death on April 27, 2015.
She and her husband, Walt, raised their children while living in Leesburg before moving to Grove City in 1976.
Doris was office manager for Dr. Joseph Meyn's dental practice in Grove City until her retirement.
They were lifelong supporters of their children's and grandchildren's interests including attending church at Leesburg Presbyterian Church, when they lived in that area. While there she was a 4-H leader and taught sewing, and supported Scouts. She and Walt were avid sports enthusiasts and attended their children's activities and numerous sporting events.
Doris participated in numerous bowling leagues in the county and traveled nationally to compete. She was inducted into the Mercer County Bowlers Hall of Fame in 1990; the Mercer County Sports Hall of Fame in 1995; and she is listed in the National Women's Bowling Hall of Fame in St. Louis, Mo.
She attended the Mercer Methodist Church and volunteered for the American Cancer Society.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Ramos and her husband, Agustin, of Rochester, N.Y.; two sons, Randy A. Fyffe and his wife, Sherry, of Grove City; and James W. Fyffe and his wife, Trisha, of Wheeling, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Caitlin Wellman and her husband, Steve, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Maddison Fyffe and Braden Fyffe of Pittsburgh, Joshua Fyffe and his wife, Stacey, of Monroeville and Mitchell Fyffe of Sharpsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and all her siblings.

Calling hours: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday (6-16-17) and before the funeral service from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday (6-17-17) at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Village of Leesburg, 1778 Perry Highway, Volant.
Service: Funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday (6-17-17) at the funeral home, with pastor Brian Keller officiating.
Interment: Carpenter Cemetery, Springfield Township.
