Christina Weston, formerly of Hermitage, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at 9:06 p.m. in Countryside Convalescent Home, Lackawannock Township, following an extended illness resulting from a massive stroke.
She was born in Farrell on Oct. 9, 1936, to Michael and Christine Lichvar Benya Sr.
She was married to Raymond Weston on April 29, 1961, in the former St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Sharon. He passed away on May 24, 1999.
Christina was a member of Notre Dame Parish in Hermitage, the Hermitage Woman's Club and several local bowling leagues. She was a graduate of Farrell High School, Class of 1954. She had worked at the former Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Sharon as a personal secretary and as a receptionist at Kent State University in Ohio. She enjoyed bowling, golf, watching old movies, shopping, wearing jewelry, eating out and attending her monthly Class of 1954 luncheons.
She is survived by six nieces, Donna Nicastro, Christine (Ron) Perna, Carrie Nicastro, Bunny (Kelly) Sheetz, Tammy Reeher and Kim Klutcher; 11 nephews, Ed (Lucy) Nicastro, Mike, Sam and Harry Nicastro, Paul Kwiatkowski, Charles (Tina) Kay, Stephen Benya and Mike, George, Kenny and Anthony Weston; and two sisters-in-law, Dolores Benya and Patti Reeher.
Beside her parents and husband, Christina is preceded in death by her sisters, Helen and Mary Benya, Dorothy Nicastro and Anna Kwiatkowski; four brothers, Mike, Bill, Stephen and John Benya; her in-laws, Pearl and Henry Weston; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and nephews, Willie and Albert.
Christina's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Countryside for their kind and compassionate care of "Benya," to all the ladies (Bonnie, Melanie, Karen, Kim ... ) from Caregivers Plus whose support enabled Chris to remain in her home for six years following her stroke and to her overnight buddies, Vannie and Tina.
For those wishing to honor Christina's memory, the family suggests setting aside just one half hour of your time to visit someone who is home-bound, hospitalized or in a nursing home. Your act of kindness will mean far more while they are alive than any monetary contributions or floral arrangements at the time of their death.
Christina, 80, of Lackawannock Township, formerly of Hermitage.
