William's Story

William R. Ireland, 95, of Hermitage, passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017.
He was born Feb. 25, 1922, in Dormont, Pa., to the late Daniel and Isabelle Ireland.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjory (Kennedy) Ireland. 
William was beloved father of William Ireland and Richard Ireland and wife Debbie; brother of Jean Sweeney; cherished grandfather of four; and adored great-grandfather of five. 
William retired from Mellon Bank as an assistant V.P. and supervisor of the loan administration department.
He graduated from Robert Morris School of Accounting and the University of Wisconsin, Graduate School of Banking.
He was a Mason for over 60 years and a member of the John A. Brashear Lodge 743 F&AM; a life member of the Consistory Scottish Rite in the Valley of Pittsburgh; and the Shriners International Syria Temple.
He enlisted in the Air Corps Cadets in 1942, received his commission of second lieutenant in 1943 and awarded his pilot wings in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
