William H. Bennefield


Bishop William "Pappy" H. Bennefield, Sr., 93, of Sandy Lake, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019.
Bill was born on Aug. 30, 1925, in Meadville, a son to William "Mac" McKinley Bennefield and Rosetta Isabelle (Jayne) Bennefield.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and had worked as a tool and die maker for Mercer Forge.
His faith led him to the ministry and he was ordained as a minister in the early 1950s. He later joined Shield of Faith Church and Dove Ministries, Sandy Lake. He was consecrated Bishop with Dove Ministries and worked in their nursing home ministry for more than 41 years.
Pappy is survived by: his children, Pastor Gary L. Bennefield (Claire), Hadley; Minister William H. Bennefield, Jr., Sandy Lake; Karen R. Bennefield, Sandy Lake; Bishop Stephen L. Bennefield Sr., Farrell; Shirley A. Bennefield, Sandy Lake; and Mary R. Christy (Edward), Oil City; his 13 grandchildren; his 28 great-grandchildren; and his seven great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Naomi (Haag) Bennefield; son, Glen Bennefield Sr.; daughter-in-law, Geraldine "Gerry" Bennefield; granddaughter, Karen Jordan; and great-granddaughter, Ashley Bostick.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Greater New and Living Way Temple, 840 Highland Road, Sharon, 16146.

Funeral services: 6 p.m. Thursday in the church.
