Wayne K. Marsteller, 88, of Sandy Lake, (New Vernon Township) passed away at 5:25 p.m. Friday (Oct. 20, 2017) in UPMC Passavant after an extended illness.
Born May 21, 1929, in Grove City, he was a son of Jay T. and Bonita W. Caldwell Marsteller.
He was a 1947 graduate of Sandy Lake High School.
Wayne was a welder for more than 44 years at Greenville Steel Car, retiring in 1994. He also farmed for many years, both at home and doing custom work for others.
He was a member of the New Lebanon Community Church and had served as an usher.
In early years he had been a member of Lake Lodge 434, Free and Accepted Masons, Sandy Lake. He enjoyed NASCAR and was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was a longtime member of the New Vernon Grange.
Wayne was known as a hard-working man and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
His wife, the former Shirley M. Smith, whom he married Oct. 29, 1949, survives.
Also surviving are: his children, Barb (Dave) Targett, Navarre, Fla., Teri Rose, Greenville, Tim (Connie) Marsteller, California, and Gary (Wendy) Marsteller, Spotsylvania, Va.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; a son, Ron "Butch" Marsteller; an infant daughter, Beverly Marsteller; a sister, Sara "Sally" Hart; and two brothers, Clair and Bruce Marsteller.

Service: 11 a.m. Thursday (10-26-17) in the funeral home with Rev. Virginia LaVan Gadsby, pastor of New Lebanon Community Church, officiating.
Interment: Hadley Cemetery.
