Wayne Richard Lightner, 71, of Volant, passed away at UPMC Montifiore, Pittsburgh on Monday, May 14, 2018, at 7:30 a.m. after a brief illness.
Wayne was born in Grove City on Feb. 13, 1947, to Howard L. and Helen J. McDaniel Lightner. He married Beverly Upperman on July 22, 1972.
Wayne worked as a news director at WEDA from 1968 to 1988 and then worked at Marett Carpet One from 1989 to 2016. He was a member of Center Presbyterian Church, Grove City.
Wayne enjoyed music, gardening, photography, fishing and nature.
Wayne was an Army veteran who served from 1966 to 1972.
He is survived by his wife: Beverly Lightner, at the residence; one son, Timothy Lightner and his wife, Natasha, in Pittsburgh; two daughters, Tabitha Packer in Chesapeake, Va., and Shannon Lightner in Grove City, as well as six grandchildren.
Wayne is also survived by his mother: Helen Lightner in Maplecrest, N.Y.; four sisters, Karen, wife of Alan Bugos, in Maplecrest, Patty Mattison in Ambridge, Sue, wife of Donnie Swartzlander, in Alden, N.Y., Joyce, wife of Jimmy Swartzlander, in Beaver Falls; and one brother, David Lightner and his wife, Susan, in Harrisville.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father.

Calling hours: From 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday (5-16-18) at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME INC., 144 S. Pitt St., Mercer, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday (5-17-18) at Center Presbyterian Church, 333 Center Church Road, Grove City.
Service: Funeral will be at noon Thursday (5-17-18) at the church, with the Rev. Bill Woodman officiating.
Burial: Center Church Cemetery, Grove City.
