Wallace Dale Wood


Wallace Dale Wood, 82, of Sharon, passed away peacefully Monday morning (July 1, 2019) in Sharon Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Luray, Va., on Aug. 23, 1936, a son of Thomas and Gladys Verlin (Burner) Wood.
Following his graduation from high school, Dale enlisted in the Air Force, taking him to both Iwo Jima and Korea with the 421st Air Force Police Squadron. He attained the rank of Airman First Class before his honorable discharge on May 12, 1960.
Dale first worked at Westinghouse in the paint department. He then worked many years as a semi truck mechanic before his retirement from Compas/Falcon Trucking.
Dale was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing and camping. He was also very much involved with the Boy Scouts and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Sharon where he had served on the Deacon's Board.
He leaves behind: his sons, David W. Wood and Scott A. Wood, both Sharon; sister-in-law, Alice Maye Juranovich, Sharon; and two nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, the former Margaret J. (Hall), whom he married Dec. 27, 1957, and who passed away June 28, 2009; and his brother, Charles Wood.
