Thomas L. Wiand, of Stoneboro, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 1 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 31, 2017) in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, following a heart transplant.
Tom faced the transplant with his faith in God and the loving support of his family that was so proud of him. He was 68.
Born Oct. 2, 1948, in Grove City, he was a son of Harry H. and Eleanor M. Steinlechner Wiand.
Mr. Wiand graduated from Lakeview High School in 1967 and then went into the Army and served with Army Intelligence. He also played on the Army baseball team. He was an Army Vietnam-era veteran. In 1970, he graduated from Youngstown State University with a degree in political science and education.
Tom worked for Joy Manufacturing, Franklin, as a supervisor in the warehouse and retired as the company's national transportation manager in 2011 after 36 years of service.
He was a member of St. Columbkille Roman Catholic Church, Stoneboro.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially loved fishing with his kids and grandkids and also with his "Joy" and "Florida" buddies
He coached Lakeview Little League for several years and took the "Big League" to the State Championship in 1996.
Most of all, Tom was about his family. He was a loving husband to Sherry (Lewis), whom he married Oct. 14, 1972. She was the love of his life and his best friend who stood by him always. He was a father who loved his children and invested time with them to help them in life. And then the grandchildren came along, all of whom he adored.
