Susan E. E. (Gruitza) Seidel


Susan E. (Gruitza) Seidel of Venice, Fla., formerly of Hermitage, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, in Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Hospital. She was 63.
Susan was born June 20, 1955, in Sharon, a daughter of the late John and Aurelia (Vulcan) Gruitza.
She was a 1973 graduate of Hickory High School and attended Kent State University and Mercyhurst College, Erie, where she studied art.
Susan was employed as a processing clerk for the Sarasota County Clerk of Courts. A freelance artist, she also owned and operated Seidel Enterprises and, while living in Pennsylvania, worked at FNB Corp. and the former Phar-Mor drug store, where she met her husband.
She and her husband, the late Robert Joseph Seidel, were married Sept. 20, 1990.
Surviving are: a son, Robert J. Seidel, of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Virginia "Gigi" Cannone and her husband Dr. Michael Cannone, of Naples, Fla.; and Adrienne Tychonievich, of Hubbard, Ohio; two brothers, Attorney Michael Gruitza and his wife Joan, of Hermitage; and George Gruitza, of Sharon; and a sister-in-law, Joanne Rogers and her husband Mark, of Pittsburgh.
Besides her parents and husband, Susan was preceded in death by a brother, John Gruitza; and her father- and mother-in-law, Robert and Anna Seidel.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Doctors Without Borders at

Service: Funeral Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Monday (5-13-19) in St. Joseph Church, Sharon, with Rev. Thomas J. Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.

Susan was a light in this world. Her smile could light up a room in an instant. Her passing is truly devastating. While she is no longer on this earth, I am confident she will continue to light up every moment of life with her spirit and her soul. My heart is broken but I am at peace knowing she is looking over all of us.

Susan was a beautiful person- I remember when she was in high school & I was in 8th Grade, she helped me practice Cheerleading and I made the 8 the Grade team in Sharon!! Spent many hours at the church together.....I always looked up to her! May she be at peace with her loving parents, grandparents and Brother. With Love & Prayers to All-Kathy
