Robert Eugene "Uncle Buck" Smith Sr., 87, of West Middlesex, died of natural causes Monday (Nov. 20, 2017) in Sharon Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Sharon on May 28, 1930, a son of Ernest and Gertrude Wheeler Smith.
A Sharon High School graduate, he retired from Sharon Steel as slitter operator. He also worked as a security guard at football and basketball games at Farrell High School.
Robert was a member of Ruth A.M.E. Zion Church, Sharon, where he served as a steward, sang in the choir, and was on the Courtesy Committee.
He belonged to Saturday Night Men's Bowling league, Father and Son Bowling League and Tuesday Keystone Mix Bowling League. He was an avid Cleveland sports fan and cheered for the Browns, Indians and Cavaliers.
He will be remembered as a great family man.
He is survived by: his wife, Alda D. Furtado Smith, whom he married on Aug. 6, 1955; daughter, Karen Lynn Smith; son, Robert Eugene Smith, Jr.; sister, Ernestine Elerby; grandchildren Brandon Smith and Raykeya Smith; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
