Robert R. Silverthorn


Robert R. Silverthorn, 94, of Milford, Pa., formerly of Sharon, and Howland, Ohio, passed away Monday morning, April 1, 2019, in Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
Mr. Silverthorn was born June 1, 1924, in Girard, Pa., a son of the late Roa Columbo and Louise (Baxe) Silverthorn. He attended Rice Avenue Union High School in Girard.
He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. during World War II, where he was stationed in Ireland guarding ammunition.
Following his discharge, Robert waorked for the former Erie Lackawanna Railroad in Sharon as a rate clerk until he retiring in the 1990s.
A man of strong faith, Robert was a member of East Side Church, Baptist-Disciples of Christ, Sharon.
He enjoyed gardening and growing tomatoes in his backyard.
His wife, the former Alice Mazrick, whom he married Dec. 12, 1947, passed away Feb. 21, 2003.
He is survived by a daughter, Ellen Moscaritolo and her husband Dan, of Milford; a son, Charles Silverthorn and his wife Michael Anne, of Salineville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Ethan Silverthorn, Elissa (Christopher) Wilson, Crystal (James) Bradley and Cheryl Anne Oliver; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Rice and Virginia Jackson, and a brother, Clarence Silverthorn.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to East Side Church, Baptist-Disciples of Christ, 201 Spruce Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.

Interment: Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna, Ohio.
