Robert L. McClay of Findley Township, Mercer, passed away at 8:32 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness. He was 80.
Robert was born in New Wilmington on Feb. 9, 1937, to Henry McClay and Garnet Phillips McClay.
He married Carol Ann Kaufman McClay on Oct. 3, 1970. She passed away April 9, 2009.
He attended New Wilmington High School.
An Army veteran, he served from 1956-1959 and was a member of Mercer American Legion.
He was employed by Hart's Dairy and Dean Foods and could be seen at the main gate at Mercer Raceway Park where he worked from 1994 until the present and in the 1970s, watered the race track.
Bob was very passionate about racing and enjoyed car shows. If you didn't find Bob mowing grass or shoveling snow he was washing and waxing his cars.
He also was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Robert was a member of Mercer United Methodist Church.
Surviving are: two children, a son, Scott McClay of Pittsburgh, and a daughter, Debbie, wife of Rob Daugherty, of Mercer; and three grandchildren, Dylan, Jenna and Brayden Daugherty.
In addition to his parents and his wife, a sister, Peggy Campbell, preceded him in death.

Service: Funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Brian Keller of Mercer United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial: Neshannock Cemetery, New Wilmington.
