Richard Glenn Mayberry


Richard Glenn Mayberry, 82, of Bryan Street, New Castle, passed away unexpectedly the afternoon of June 10, 2016, in his home. Born Nov. 18, 1933, in Peanut Quarry, Hillsville, Pa., he was a son of Thomas R. and Wylda Marie Boyd Mayberry. Surviving at home is his loving wife of 63 years, Alice JoAnne Carter Mayberry, whom he married on June 14, 1952. After his education at Edinburg Elementary School, he graduated from Union High School in 1951. He attended New Castle Business College, taking night courses. Richard was employed with Sharon Steel for 33 years as an expeditor until his retirement in 1983. During that time he was also a part owner of Tire Town in New Castle. He continued to work as a bookkeeper for Moresky and Sons for another 22 years, retiring in 2005. Richard was active with the Lawrence County Historical Society, where he served as a former treasurer. He was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 720 of Mount Jackson and was the Office and Technical Workers Union president at Sharon Steel. Among his many interests, he enjoyed genealogy, history and old cars and loved working outside. A member of Wesley Methodist Church, Richard served as a trustee and was active in many church functions. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Dianne (David) Hohl, Buffalo, N.Y.; and Susan (Thomas) Tobin, Franklinville, N.J.; two sons, Richard G. Mayberry II, York, Pa.; and Keith L. (Amy) Mayberry, Jacksonville, N.C.; one sister, Mary Lou Commesso, Edinburg; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Thomas Mayberry; and a half sister, Maxine Boyd. MAYBERRY Richard Glenn, 82, of New Castle. Calling hours: None.
